Almost a year ago I was posting updates about a young woman who had tongue cancer and wasn't doing so well, and then about her wonderful recovery. My mom just got this great update from Emily's mom today and I thought y'all might like to read it.

The old saying no news is good news applies with our family. Emily is doing wonderful. I wanted to take this opportunity to update everyone. We just got the results of her latest CAT scan and it was perfect. No cancer anywhere. I cried as usual. I still cannot believe that we have been so blessed. How great God truly is. Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati society is aware of her miracle. I was told that Rome is also aware. Her 1 year anniversary will be in October and then we can proceed to make this awesome Blessed a Saint. Please pray that they can use this miracle for his sainthood. Emily's story has been such an inspiration to so many of us.

What has little Emily been up to since her miracle. Well, she graduated college with a 3.8 out of 4.0 magnum cum laude. She received the first ever overcoming adversity award in her field of study, sociology. She received a standing ovation for that. She currently is working at a Mental Health clinic as a job coach and moved into her first apartment. She celebrated her 23rd birthday.

Her book is still in the works. She told me she is hoping to finish up sometime this winter. I've had the privilege to read some of it and she is definitely a better writer than me. Her literary tone is warm, funny and inspirational. Just like the author.

I would like to express my sincerest thanks to everyone for your continued prayers. "Every day is a great day." That is Emily's saying. Her faith is still amazing and her courage is to. Emily still endures some minor discomforts from all the radiation, so please forward any prayer intentions and I'll make sure she gets them. She is still offering all of her suffering for the holy souls in purgatory and will gladly offer them for any intentions you have.

Hi all,
I wanted to ask for prayers for my daughter Marygrace's good friend Michelle who was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Michelle's younger sister has diabetes and her mother just survived cancer, and her father is nearly out of a job, so this family has been carrying a lot! Despite this, they are just incredibly faith-filled in their suffering. I sent the below letter around to our friends asking for prayers and contributions for the family and I thought I would post it here as well. And please read the mother Helen's beautiful letter at the end. Helen is one of my best friends, and I can't imagine how she is getting through this, but God has given her lots of grace.

Dear friends,
Since many of you have asked to be updated about the Michelle Babineau's situation, I thought I would send out one more email asking for prayers. Since I last wrote to you, 10-year-old Michelle (my daughter tells me she is not 12, but 10! She's tall for her age!) has had surgery to remove 50% of the tumor and her pathology report finally came in today.

The report is not good. Basically, as her mother Helen writes below, Michelle has a malignant brain tumor and there is no known cure for her condition. She has about one or two years to live, God willing.

So please continue to pray for the Babineaus.

We are collecting a spiritual bouquet and gift card- bouquet for them. My friend and Helen's neighbor Susan Haggerty is organizing this. As Mr. Babineau's hours have been cut down to part time, any kind of financial assistance is welcome (they still have good insurance: with Helen's cancer and their other daughter's diabetes, they couldn't afford lose their insurance and have been doing COBRA). The stores near them include Wal-Mart and Giant Foods, but any sort of gift card would be welcome. You can send gift cards by email to me or by snail mail to

Though calling them right now is probably not a good idea (they are just completely exhausted worn out), many other things would probably be good to do.

And yes, please continue to pray. God could do anything. May His will be glorified in this!

You can feel free to forward this e-mail completely or in part to anyone you think wants to know what Michelle's diagnosis and treatment plan are.

We heard definitively today from Michelle's oncologist that her tumor is a high-grade malignant glioma. This type of brain cancer is not curable, and since Michelle's tumor could only be 50% removed that means she has 50% of a very aggressive, malignant tumor remaining in her brain. She will begin radiation at Fairfax Hospital sometime next week and will receive treatment there 5 days a week for 6 weeks for a total of treatments. She will also concurrently receive an oral chemotherapy drug that we have been told will not diminish her quality of life, and if it turns out to affect her badly we have assured Michelle that she can drop this drug at any time ("it's not like joining the military!"). We will also be completing paperwork on Thursday at Children's Hospital to seek to enroll Michelle in a clinical trial in Pittsburgh, for which her oncologist claims she is "an excellent candidate." We have explained to Michelle, however, that you can't just sign up, you have to be accepted, so we will have to wait and see if Michelle is accepted into the program.

80-90% of children with this type of cancer live an average of 12-15 months after diagnosis. A fortunate 15% live approximately 2 years, and the unfortunate 5% do not respond to treatment. Unless a literal miracle occurs, Michelle will not "get well" or "recover" - we are truly living in the present tense in our household. I speak only for my own self when I say this, but I am not praying for a miracle. Not because I wouldn't be eternally grateful for one - that goes without saying - but because I honestly believe that in matters of life and death, I have learned by my own experience that it is better to let God be God. I am praying right now for the grace in my home for Joe and me to love Michelle, Katie and Peter in the way that Mary and Joseph loved the child Jesus in Bethlehem.

We have appts on both Thurs and Fri to set this plan in motion. Thank you for everything you are doing!!! We may need meals when Michelle starts radiation.... I have to admit, we do feel a little hesitant to ask for this, since we got meals when I was in cancer treatment as recently as November!!

Prayers for Caleb

To all prayer warriors out there, I have a special request for you!

Recently my friend Sarah asked for prayers for her little nephew, who will be born this August, I believe. He's only a few months old, but already he has a fight ahead for him. To quote from his mom's blog:

We learned through this consultation that Caleb has 2 different issues with his brain development. He does, in fact, have a significant cyst in the center of his brain. The cyst in and of itself does not appear to be a problem as there is no blood flowing into it. It isn't growing or threatening, it just simply is present. The problem, however, is that it is present in place of another part of the brain. Caleb is missing a part of his brain called the corpus callosum. According to the neurologist, there is no way to fix it and there is no chance of it developing now. What is done is done.

The other major issue with Caleb's brain is the there is severe deformity in the left frontal lobe. The brain is made up of tissue and the entire left frontal lobe has a mass of tissue called a heterotopia. This is really just a mass of excess tissue that shouldn't be there, and as a result, it has overtaken the healthy cells and brain tissue on the left side of the brain. There are no other parts of the brain that are missing; just this mass that is preventing proper growth and function of the left side of the brain. The doctors couldn't say why this had happened, they could only promise that there was no way it will repair itself or go away...it just is the way it is.

Unfortunately, the doctors couldn't give us a guaranteed outcome of what these abnormalities mean for Caleb... Caleb most likely will have severe difficulty with speech and he may never be able to talk. He may also have issues with hearing and sight. The left frontal lobe controls the right side of the body so he may be paralyzed on his right side or have problems controlling that half of his body. He most likely will never walk. Because the left frontal lobe and corpus callosum both participate in cognitive skills and intelligence, Caleb is not expected to be able to reason or be capable of higher-order intelligence.

The most serious issue is that the absence of the corpus callosum and the presence of the heterotopia will most certainly cause Caleb to have a seizure disorder. The neurologist pretty much guaranteed us that this is absolutely going to happen. He is concerned that Caleb will not only have seizures, but because of the significance of the abnormalities, he may have uncontrollable seizures and a lot of them. These types of seizures do not respond well to medication and can ultimately cause damage to the healthy half of the brain.

Please pray that a miracle of healing will be granted for Caleb! The family has asked that the following prayer for the intercession of Servant of God Father Hardon be said:

Almighty God, You gave your servant, Father John Anthony Hardon of the Society of Jesus, the grace of consecration as a religious dedication to the apostolate and the grace of consecration as an ordained priest, after the Heart of Your Divine Son, our Good Shepherd.
Through Father Hardon, You provided for your Flock an extraordinary teacher of the faith. You entrusted Father Hardon into the loving care of the Blessed Virgin Mary whose council, "Do what ever he tells you" (Jn 2:5) he faithfully followed and whose intercession he unceasingly invoked.
If it be Your holy will, please grant the request I now make... (make request here) calling upon the help of Father Hardon, so that his heroic sanctity may be recognized in the whole Church. I ask this through Your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, who with You and the Holy Spirit, is one God forever and ever. Amen.

Please remember to pray that the Health Care Reform Bill does NOT get passed today! While yes, some of the wording has been changed, there are still loopholes that would protect and allow the funding of abortion. We need to pray that this bill gets defeated.
Especially pray for the intercession of St. Gianna Molla - an Italian wife, mother and doctor who refused to have an abortion so that the doctors could treat her cancer and thus sacrificed her life for her child.

Christmas update for Emily

We got a wonderful Christmas update about Emily from her mom that I just had to share with you. =)

First let me wish everyone a very MERRY CHRISTMAS.

I know everyone is wondering how Emily's tongue is doing. Well that answer is what Christmas is all about. Gods best miracles. She is completely cancer free. Her recent CT scan came back clear. Just some scar tissue from the surgery. She is also pain free and eating everything she wants. She finished up her semester making all "A's". Which is pretty amazing considering she missed 2 months of school. She only had to drop 2 classes because of clinicals. She will be finishing her degree in May and then graduate. My husband told Emily how he can't wait for her graduation. Emily asked why? She said "Dad you hate those things." He said, "Emily, I can promise you that this graduation I would not miss for anything."

Jesus promised where 2 or more are gathered he is there. Emily got her miracle. I have to say this again, it was because of all of your prayers and faith. Believe me I had many hopeless moments. Times when I looked up and just cried. In September I was told I had less than a year left with my first born child. This Christmas was suppose to be our last one on earth together. But everyone said wait. God has the last word. He is the true physician. Prayer services where held. No one gave up hope. So many of you emailed me and promised not to stop praying for a miracle. Well I still cannot believe My baby is OK. Better than OK. She is perfect. She can talk, eat, laugh, and live. While I would never want this for anyone, I would gladly go through it again. My faith grew tenfold. I saw how strong my daughter was. She brought a huge family closer (I mean everyone reading this). I witnessed my brothers and sister's unconditional love and faith. Friends became family. Through these emails we laughed, cried, and waited. We prayed and hoped. We cared. Many of you have never met my daughter and you loved her.

May our future St. Pier Giorgio Frassati pray for us!

Pathology Report Update

Hi to All,

We got Emily's pathology report last night from Dr. S. It was squamous cell cancer. The same type she has.

The great news is they got it all.

According to the MRI, it was a 1 1/2 cm ill defined tumor. When they biopsied it, it was only 1 cm and had defined borders.

That is a miraculous change right there.

They checked all the surrounding tissue taken with the cancer and it was cancer free.

So as of now Emily no longer has cancer. Dr. S said it may never come back.

Another miracle is how well she is talking and swallowing. She was talking right after surgery.

The doctors are still concerned because this is such an extremely aggressive tumor. It has a very high reoccurrence rate. (as we have just seen) Dr. S is contacting the top head and neck cancer Doctor at Harvard University to see if he has any ideas.

They feel Chemotherapy probably wont be effective. Radiation is no longer an option. Proton therapy wont help with this cancer either.

We will be seeing Dr. P soon and listen to his opinion.

However like I said, She is cancer free right now and that is a miracle. I believe it will never come back. Jesus made it possible to have all the cancer removed. He was guiding the surgeon's hand.

Emily, John, and myself feel so overwhelmed with love from all the prayers being said. I know many of you never met my daughter. But you prayed with such love. Jesus heard everything.

Last night as I was saying my evening prayers, I picked up a prayer card of St. Padre Pio. He said, "Pray, Hope, and don't worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear our prayers. Prayer is the best weapon we have; it is the key to God's heart. You must speak to Jesus not only with your lips but with you heart. In fact on certain occasions you should speak to him only with your heart."

Emily's faith has been unshakeable. While she suffers from surgery, she is already offering it up. Believe me, I wish I had even a drop of her faith. I can tell you she has never complained even once about her cross. She has born it courageously. She has never asked why me. She even said "why not me."

Our deepest gratitude for all your continued prayers. You are all prayer warriors for our family and we will never forget it.

It is the prayers of the people united that make us a holy people and it is the total acceptance of Gods divine will that make us his beloved children.

Wonderful Update!

What 72 hours and thousands of prayers can do to a 22 year old young woman is amazing. On Friday I sent an update that broke my heart. We were given such grim news by the doctor. Although we didn't understand God's divine plan we accepted his will.

Emily had been praying all night for a miracle. She asked Jesus to send her one if it was in his will. Friday morning we were getting ready to leave for home and my friend stopped by with a 2nd class relic of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassatti. He is incorrupt, which means his body never decayed after death. She told us he needs one more miracle and he could become a saint. Emily was so excited. Was this an answer to her prayer?

I called my "Family Priest" to come and pray the rosary with us. I love watching my littleones trying to impress Father with their Hail Marys and rendition of "Immaculate Mary". Father annointed Emily with the sacrament for the sick. We then prayed the prayer printed on Pier Giorgio's holy card. What happened next was truly miraclous.

All of you wonderful family and friends were lighting up the sky with prayers. We have been told of prayer groups storming heaven all across the country. People wrote us not to give up hope. We were told "God has the last say". One homeschool group had over 100 people praying the rosary for Emily this weekend. A wonderful man who is studying to be a priest fasted and prayed every hour for Emily (he is suffering from brain cancer) and sat in front of the blessed sacrament all during surgery. Many of you wrote to tell us that you stopped to pray for Emily during her surgery praying especially to Bl. Pier Giorgio.

After 2 hours we were called back to see Dr. P and face the news. He began by telling us he went to a Jesuit college. He said he had devotion to St. Ignatious Loyola. He said he hoped we didn't mind but he prayed before he began surgery. I said we were praying for him to be guided by God during the surgery. He said he cut a 12mm circle around the sore and 12mm deep wedge out of her tongue. I asked him if it were possible, could the cancer be gone for good. He said absoutely. I just started hugging him and everyone in the room started crying. He said the real miracle will be if the pathology comes back non-cancer. We hugged him again and thanked him.

Now what do you think the miracle is. Emily's healing/cure??? Yes partly. The real miracle was the thousands of prayers that were prayed for her. Little children on their knees praying their rosaries. Brothers on bikes talking to Blessed JP2. People wanting to go to confession. Whole church communities praying together. What does all of this mean?? FAITH We had faith in God's will. We believed God would hear us.

Emily got exactly what she asked for. A miracle. We saw true faith. That is our miracle.

We still resign ourselves to Gods Divine Plan for our family. Hopefully Emily will be the miracle that causes Blessed Pier Giorgio to become a saint. I completely believe she is. So does Emily.

But I will never forget all of you. Your love for our daughter. Your perservence in prayer. Your faith.

Thank You for being our Miracle that we were praying and hoping for. I know Heaven was lit up and our Angels were busy. Saints worked overtime and Blessed Mother was busy interceding on our behalf. Jesus just smiled and said your faith has healed you.

Prayers for Emily's Surgery Today

Please pray for Emily today, as she goes to have surgery for her cancer. Here is an update from Emily's mom.

We believe that Jesus will heal Emily today. Her surgery is at 1:00pm. We need everyone to pray for her miracle if you can.

Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati is in need of 1 more miracle to become a saint. Emily needs a miracle. She is hoping she is his miracle. He was born in 1901 and died in 1925 from polio. He was a college student who cared for the poor. He is known as the blessed of the beatitudes. That is one of Emily's favorite prayers.

Here is his prayer if you want to pray for him or any prayer you wish to offer. God hears us all.

O merciful God, Who through the perils of the world deigned to preserve by Thy grace Thy servant Pier Giorgio Frassati pure of heart and ardent charity, listen, we ask Thee, to our prayers, and, if it is in Thy designs that he be glorified by the Church, show us Thy will, granting us the graces we ask of Thee through his intercession, by merits of Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Many of you are wondering how Emily is holding up. I can tell you her faith amazes us all. She told me not to worry. She is not afraid. She loves Jesus and trust him completely. She wasn't sad or scared at all this weekend. Our priest (who is really more like family to us) came over this weekend and gave Emily the anointing of the sick. He told me to listen to Emily. She has faith.

Prayers needed for Emily!

We got another update from Emily's mom. Please keep them in your prayers, they need a miracle.

I am sorry for what I am about to write. I wish I could call each of you myself. The news was not good.

Dr. P from Rush will be surgically removing Emily's tumor with a lazer. He will make a small border cut around the lesion and tumor.

Dr. S will begin Chemotherapy to try to slow the cancers progress.

They feel however that it will just return. Our time with our beloved daughter will be cut too short. I am so sad to have to write these words. Our immediate families have been notified and our children will be told today. Emily will be coming home for the weekend to spend time with her siblings. We will be leaving for Rush on Sunday. John (Emily's dad) is here with us and we will be staying by Emily's side at Rush. She will return home on Wednesday.

We still believe that God can pull a miracle. We are hoping for that. However we have always trusted Gods will even if we don't understand it. He comes like a thief in the night. I definitely feel robbed.

Please keep up prayers for a miracle. Pray for healing and peace for all of our family and for yourselves. I know as you read this your hearts will be sorrowful. I am praying for all of you who have been reading my emails from the beginning.

Emily is still in good spirits. We must do our best to keep ours up too. Lets always look to Emily for inspiration.

Emily update

Today was a very hard day. The doctors were saddened by the test result. The MRI confirmed a new cancer. It is already 1 1/2 cm big and growing. It has no clear borders which means it is not contained and spreading. This new cancer is near her bottom jaw bone.

We see the specialist tomorrow. Our Dr. will be speaking to him by phone during the consult. We are hoping surgery will take place early next week if possible. Every day counts with this cancer. Its aggressiveness is unbelievable.

I know everyone wants to know how much tongue will be removed. I really don't know that answer. Certainly we would like to keep as much as possible. However its recurrence rate is obviously not good. Emily may have to lose some of her jaw bone also. Tomorrow we hopefully should have some answers.

After surgery, our Dr. is also consulting with the head of tongue cancer research at Harvard University. We are looking at possible chemotherapy and if it would help at all. As the Dr.put it we want to try everything. Emily is truly fighting for her life.

Please pray that we can have surgery asap. Also that we can save some of her tongue. Emily is still in very good spirits. She is very scared and hoping for the best outcome.

I wish I didn't have to write this post.

You will probably all remember Emily, the girl who had tongue cancer. Her cancer was gone, she finished treatments and was doing really well for three months. Then yesterday she found out that her cancer is back with a vengeance. Her only option as far as getting rid of it goes, is to have surgery because she was told she can never have radiation/chemo again. She goes to have an MRI next week to find out if even surgery is an option, depending on how deep the cancer is.

Please pray very hard for her and her family!

Special Prayers Needed

Please pray for a prayer intention that my family received the other day. The family has several children, the youngest of whom is a 7 week old girl. Already she's been in the hospital, and when she's a bit older she'll have to have surgery because of something that is wrong with her kidneys. She can't get an infection of any sort, or she might die. Her dad was just diagnosed with the swine flu and he is quarantined to one room in the house, because if the baby gets sick, it would probably be fatal. Within 24 hours of this the family found out that their 2 year old son is losing the sight in his right eye and needs to get glasses to hopefully stop it from progressing. Their 12 year old son needs to have surgery for something that is wrong with him.

Please keep this family in your very special prayers as the go through this difficult time. Thank you!

Emily update

Emily had a rough weekend. She spent most of it in bed. We did manage to take her on a boat ride. She really enjoyed that.

She was having a hard time breathing all weekend. She felt like something was in her throat and chest. We called Dr. S- at home keeping him up to date. He wasn't too worried about infection because she is on long term antibiotics.

Tuesday we planned on returning to ---- for her "Wednesday Chemo treatment". Emily struggled with breathing all day and collapsed around 3pm. She was running a 101* fever. We ended up taking her to the Emergency room. She was very dehydrated and they gave her IV fluids. This is all apart of the end stage of chemo and radiation treatment. Despite all the setbacks (which are normal) she is still doing incredibly well. Her current weight is 89lbs. She has only 8 treatments to go. (we were off by 3 treatments.) We are really trying to avoid a feeding tube. The current problem is her throat is very swollen so when she swallows food and water, it pushes up against her nose and the food has a hard time going down. This causes her to cough and vomit. Not to mention the constant burning pain she endures with every bite. Her jaw is also very swollen and chewing has become difficult too.

So with all of the walls crumbling, God still has a way of letting us know everything will be alright. He did so while we were at the Emergency room. Dr. S--- wanted Emily to come and get treated in ----. Our plan was to drive directly to ------ and go to St. J---- hospital to get treatment. We were just driving down our road when Emily turned to me and said "I can't make it that far. Take me to -------(our emergency room). When we got there the receptionist asked what was wrong. I stated she had cancer and we needed to see a doctor right away. She asked what kind and we told her tongue. She looked surprised and told us that was very unusual. The receptionist proceeds to tell us her husband's ex-wife is a tongue cancer survivor. She got her cancer from a canker sore when she was 25. (Just like Emily) She had Chemo and radiation treatments and is completely cured and doing great. **That is why we ended up at my Emergency room instead of ----. Emily smiled and said to me that was God. I just smiled back thinking to myself "yes that is my best friend comforting his tired daughter". That is why I have such hope. God is taking care of everything. We only need to trust and love.

When we celebrate our long weekend withour friends and family, help us remember that our freedom to speak of You, our freedom to worship You and our freedom to do that which we ought to do, have all been bought at the price and sacrifice of many lives.

Your Son died for our eternal life in heaven. So too, Your children died protecting us here on earth. Help us to be mindful this weekend and always of the sacrifices made by those in uniform for all our freedoms.

I have to be very brief. Emily's conditon has gone down hill drastically. Her voice is nothing but a whisper. Her pain is excruciating. They upped her (pain meds) and she is soaking her tongue in lidocaine. I can only leave her for a minute to update you. Please keep her in your prayers. We have a difficult 10 treatments to go and tomorrow is Chemo day. I may not be able to write you back until Wednesday. She is feeling very nauseous again from all the pain meds.

A new update to this and this. Emily really needs prayers!

Dear Everyone,

Today was Chemo day. Things started off badly. Her veins are so weak they collapsed 3 times. She has huge bruises from medicine leaving the IV and going into her tissue. Only 4 more IV's to go. She is trying to hang in there so they don't have to put in an IV in her neck. Emily had another reaction to the Erbitux. Shortness of breath and chest pressure. Only about 1% of patients get this and they tend to be from Tennessee. Emily is definitely a rare girl. They gave her more steroids and ativan to help with the reaction. She asked if she could die from the reaction. Dr. G said "yes" but I wont let that happen.
Thank Goodness Only 4 more Chemo treatments to go!!

Her weight has dropped to 91lbs. She is really having a hard time eating and talking. It seems to get much worse by the day. We saw Dr. S-- today. He was very happy with Emily's progress. He said by this stage of treatment most of his patients are on feeding tubes and stopped eating all together. All I can say is keep up the prayers, they are definitely working.

We got Emily White Castle hamburgers tonight. She can eat very soft things without spices. She mostly eats soup noodles, eggs, rice, and panda bear noodles. She can only drink water because everything else causes burning pain. Her lips, tongue and throat have white sores and are beet red. Dr. S---. showed us her whole mouth and told her sister L-- to be nice to her. (L--- always is:)

Radiation is going well. The ethyol shots are still causing alot of pain. Her arms are completely bruised. 7 shots to go!

We may not be able to go home this weekend. The kids are sick and she can't risk getting sick. She has a weak immune system so she can't fight off infection very well.

O glorious Joseph! Who concealed your incomparable and regal dignity of custodian of Jesus and of the Virgin Mary under the humble appearance of a craftsman and provided for them with your work, protect with loving power your sons, especially entrusted to you.

You know their anxieties and sufferings, because you yourself experienced them at the side of Jesus and of His Mother. Do not allow them, oppressed by so many worries, to forget the purpose for which they were created by God. Do not allow the seeds of distrust to take hold of their immortal souls. Remind all the workers that in the fields, in factories, in mines, and in scientific laboratories, they are not working, rejoicing, or suffering alone, but at their side is Jesus, with Mary, His Mother and ours, to sustain them, to dry the sweat of their brow, giving value to their toil. How to Recite the Chaplet of Divine Mercy

The Chaplet of Mercy is recited using ordinary rosary beads of five decades. The Chaplet is preceded by two opening prayers from the Diary of Saint Faustina and followed by a closing prayer.

1. Make the Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

2. Optional Opening Prayers

Update:

So today we got another e-mail from Emily's mom.

Well the first day of Chemo didn't go very well. The Doctor looked at her tongue and said the cancer is looking a little worse on her tongue. It now turned white in different areas. However it will be killed off pretty quickly now.

To start off with Emily really HATES needles. So after her weight, she is up to 97lbs yehh, Her nurse started her IV. It went very well. Emily hugged her new teddy bear from the family. They gave her benadryl and compazine to help with the nausea and any allergic reactions. Well guess what, the first chemo drug she had an allergic reaction to. Everyone came in flying. She became very short of breath and was coughing. This is a rare allergic reaction; of course Em got it. They gave her steroids and she got better. They still have to give the chemo even thought she reacted to it. The 2nd chemo drug went easier. Then she got the shot (in her upper arm) of medicine for her salivary gland to stay alive. That didn't hurt so she was relieved. Considering she has to get that shot every day for radiation.

Next we went to radiation. That went without a hitch. They were happy with the placement. Only 27!!more treatments to go. We arrived at 8:30 am and left around 2:30pm. By 3:30 pm the nausea hit. She has been sick all afternoon. She finally threw up around 5:30 and is sleeping now. They don't know why she is so sick already. Well my guess it would be all the morning activity and drugs.

Please pray that our Lord will lift her nausea and the cancer goes away.

Thanks for letting me share my day with you. It really helps to write to everyone, I don't feel so alone now. I am glad you are there in spirit for us.

Special Prayer Petition for a Girl with Cancer

I would like you all to pray for a girl I know. She is 21 and has tongue cancer. She's already had one surgery to remove the cancer from her tongue, and was supposed to have surgery again yesterday. Here is the e-mail we got yesterday from this girl's mom.

This update is so difficult to write. Emily did not have surgery today. The cancer is more aggressive than anyone thought. In 2 weeks time it went from a stage1 to a stage 3 cancer. It has hit at least 1 lymph node in her neck. Her cancer has spread to cover the whole side of her tongue. Surgery is no longer an option because of how advanced the cancer has become in an amazingly short time.
So we are starting our journey and fight today. They will be starting the radiation calibration on Monday and on Tuesday radiation therapy begins. Radiation will be every day (mon-fri). They will also start chemotherapy on tuesday. Chemo is once a week. This will be a 7 week course, with 8 weeks of recovery. She should feel ok the frst 3 weeks but then it will go down hill pretty quickly after that. I will be staying with Emily in Illinois for the duration of the treatment. My parents and husband will be keeping the rest of the family in I-----. Mom R---- will come down from F--- at the 8 week recovery point and help take care of Emily in I----. That is when she will get to come home!

Here is the Good Friday miracle. Today at 1:00pm we entered a dentist office unannounced with a prescription to have all her 3 crowns on her teeth removed. They needed to be taken out because they were stainless steel and they would make the light from the radiation scatter. They needed to be replaced before the CaT scan 7:00AM Monday, so that the calculations would be correct. The dentist office was so compassionate that they cancelled all the appointments for the afternoon and they scheduled her procedure for 3:00pm; the hour our Lord died. We think that was God's way of showing us He has a plan. We can never thank Dr. S---- and the dentist office enough for their kindness in our hour of need. There was room at the inn for our family today.

Emily wants everyone to know that she is a fighter. Her appearance will change but her spirit will stay strong. She wants everyone to stay strong for her. Her biggest fear is her family and friends being upset. That is just like Emily to worry about us.

Emily is very hopeful. Her faith in God is amazing. She stated, "I trusted Jesus completely from the beginning and I still trust Him now. He has a plan for me and for all of us."

What more can I say. J---- stated,"Jesus has given Emily the greatest gift of all. The opportunity to suffer with Jesus on the holiest three days of the year. Her reward will be beyond our comprehension. God has a plan for her that is bigger than her or any of us and we just need to have faith in Him."

I am just humbled by all of this and as always amazed at the strength of my husband and children.

Please pray for Emily's miraculous recovery in her time of trial! She's also had surgeries in the past for spinal correction, so she's been through a lot in her life time.

Dear Apostle of Emilia and member of the Order of Mary, you spread the Good News by your word and by your life witnessed to its truth. In union with Jesus crucified, you endured excruciating sufferings so patiently as to be healed miraculously of cancer in the leg. All the victims of the fires of Australia need praying for.

Desperately.

We need more than provisions, clothes, and food.

We need prayers.

Please pray for all the souls of those 181 that have died ( there are more to come, unfortunately,) and those 1740 homeless, and pray that God will stop all fires burning.

Greetings all, I heard tonight that my brother-in-law's brother, Tommy, has
taken a turn for the worse and may be close to accepting the Gift. The
cancer has spread to his liver and 60% of the liver has been removed. But
while there's life, there's hope! I appreciate all the extra prayers!

- For the soul of a young girl, 16 actually, whom I heard about. She died last Friday morning and it is suspected that she committed suicide. Please pray for the repose of her soul, and for her family and friends.

- For the mother of some friends of mine. She has been suffering from monthly seizures for over a year now. The doctors don't know really what caused them, or what to do about them. However, she went to a healing mass/service and it is possible that she was healed. She won't know for a couple months probably, but please pray that she has indeed been healed!

For those exposed to the cold

I thought I would ask everyone who reads this to pray for all those who are and have been exposed to the arctic temperatures these past few days, especially the homeless and those without adequate heating or shelter. The Midwest is suffering from arctic temperatures, and my state has a wind chill warning of temperatures up to 30 or 40 degrees below zero. Please pray for all those who are forced to be out or living in these dangerous temperatures, since when it's that cold it only takes a few minutes to get frostbite, and I hate to think how quickly it could kill someone.

Hi Everyone - Thanks for your time. I have an urgent request for prayer for a young lady by the name of Hannah. Long Story short...God put her in my life the last two weeks through her calling my cell number by mistake. She is a 20 year old sophomore @ GVSU who is pregnant, 6 weeks along. I have talked w/ her many times about adoption, her relationship w/ the Lord (which is non-existant) and her future. She is so self absorbed. She had an ultrasound yesterday, and even though she saw the heartbeat and the baby this early, she told me last night she scheduled an abortion for Saturday. She has so many influences in her life telling her abortion is no big deal and she sees it as a fix to the mess she has made of her life. Please storm the gates of Heaven w/ me through our prayers so that the gates of hell that have a hold of her will be broken and that this little life will be saved. The Lord has a purpose for all that has happened and I know Hannah's life will be changed no matter what she decides. Please pray for me for wisdom as I talk with her this week. Thanks! Novena to stop FOCA

My mother has passed on this prayer request to me, and I have decided to share it with all of you. Please read it and prayerfully consider participating. This is very important to the future of America.

If you are opposed to abortion, please read the information below and join us in prayer and fasting January 11-19, 2009.

The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) will be signed into law if Congress passes it on January 21-22, 2009. The FOCA is the next sick chapter in the book of abortion. If signed into law, all limitations on abortion will be lifted, resulting in the following:

1) All hospitals, including Catholic hospitals, will be required to perform abortions upon request. If this happens, Bishops vow to close down all Catholic hospitals - more then 30% of all hospitals in the U.S.

2) Partial birth abortions will be legal and have no limitations.

3) All U.S. taxpayers will be funding abortions.

4) Parental notification of abortions on minors will no longer be required (regardless of age).

5) The estimated number of increase in abortions is 100,000 annually.

Just as important, the government will now have control in the issue of abortion. This could result in a future amendment that would force women by law to have abortions in certain situations (rape, Down Syndrome babies, etc) and could even regulate how many children women are allowed to have.

Needless to say this information is disturbing, but sadly true. As Catholics, as Christians, as anyone who is against the needless killing of innocent children, we must stand as one. We must stop this horrific act before it becomes a law.

PLEASE JOIN US IN saying a novena and fasting from January 11-19. For Catholics, the prayer of choice is the rosary for the special intention of stopping the FOCA. For non-Catholics we encourage you to pray your strongest prayers with the same intention for 9 consecutive days. We hope and pray this will branch and blossom to become a global effort.

Please do the following 3 things:

1) Pass this letter to 5 or more people within 3 days or less (so as many as possible can start praying on January 11)

2) Say a novena from January 11-19, asking God to prevent the FOCA from becoming law in the U.S.

3) Fast at least 2 days during this novena (either a complete fast of bread and water, or a Lenten fast of no meat and meals limited to 1 regular meal and 2 lesser meals during the day).

Hey! I can’t give you all the details but there is this baby in Guam who is still in the womb and is deformed badly (ex. Some intestines are outside the body, and the baby has no lower backbone). The mother has said that she will not have an abortion (Hurrah!) and the dad is fighting in Iraq. The baby is a boy and is named Thomas Scott. Wal-Mart Worker Killed the Day After Thanksgiving

Please pray for the repose of the soul of a young man who was killed during the shopping yesterday, the day after Thanksgiving. CNN reports that the young man was a temporary worker for Wal-Mart in Long Island, New York, and was trampled to death after assisting in opening the doors Friday morning. He was only 34 years old.

..The employee was "stepped on by hundreds of people" as other workers attempted to fight their way through the crowd, Fleming said.
"Several minutes" passed before others were able to clear space around the man and attempt to render aid. Police arrived, and "as they were giving first aid, those police officers were also jostled and pushed," he said.

"Shoppers ... were on a full-out run into the store," he said.
The crowd had begun forming outside the store by 9 p.m. Thursday, Fleming said. By 5 a.m. Friday, when the doors were unlocked, there were 2,000 or so shoppers, many of whom "surged forward," breaking the doors, he said...

He is doing better - though not out of the woods - and they are keeping him in ICU tonight, just to be on the safe side. Please keep him in your prayers tonight, since they had to do surgery again today (due to the infection) and he doesn't do to well with the anesthetic, and last night after his first surgery, he had a really bad nights sleep, and was hallucinating and all that.

Good coming out of Bad

For about 2 years now my uncle's movie studio (creative capers) has been struggling. Well, they just had a contract but their not sure if it's going to go through. If it doesn't.......that will be really bad. My uncle has gone without a pay check for about a year and has been totally fine finacially. However, this is getting to be a real struggle for the owners of the company (Terry, Sue, and my uncle David). So, at the last minute, Terry got really stressed and my uncle David sent her down to a Catholic church to pray (btw, she's not Catholic). She came back and said she promised St. Jude that if this contract would go through, she would become Catholic and raise her one kid Catholic! YEAH! Also, through all this suffering, my uncle has come to know and become closer with God, thanks to my Dad giving him a book called 'Surrender to Divine Providence'. So, if you all please pray for my uncle, and their company.

Also if you could please pray for my Uncle David's daughter Emily and her friend Ashley. Her friend is 17 was very involved in the youth group at church, was very loved, and was Emily's best friend. She mysteriously died in her sleep a couple of days ago. Her Dad found her in bed and tried to do CPR on her but it was to late. So, if you could pray for Ashley's Dad, Mom, and her little brother, also for Emily, and Ashley's soul, I would greatly appreciate it!

Please offer up your prayers for my Uncle Kevin, who will be going into surgery tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. for his back. His L5 disc is shot and it is causing him to lose the use of his left leg. He can no longer do anything with it from the knee down and it is going cold, so they are hoping that by doing this surgery they will release the pressure off the nerves with the hope that the nerves will come back and he will regain the use of his leg.

Miracle Needed

We just got word today that a family member(the __ ) - One of the daughters (Giana 18yrs) was rushed to the hospital from college yesterday because she could not stop throwing up - well now she is fighting for her life - her liver is shutting down (no warning what so ever). She was put on the top of the liver transplant list. The doctors are saying only a miracle can save her life. We have been praying all morning and we just received a call that they are giving her a artificial liver (Not FDA approved yet but that's the only hope to keep her alive until a liver is available). SO I'm asking everyone for prayers and to stop and take a moment and be thankful for what you have today because tomorrow can change in an instant - if you could please just include her in your prayers we would appreciate it.

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Richard Seel ( 46 ) who was killed in a car accident today taking his two children Wyatt ( 13 ) and Regan ( 9 ) to Lial Catholic Elementary school in Whitehouse,OH.

Regan, one of our Andrew's classmates, suffered a skull fracture and is in a medical induced coma for the purpose of surgery and recovery. She is currently in critical condition. Her older brother Wyatt, one of our Stephen's classmates, also suffered broken bones but is in stable condition. Mrs. Lisa Seel will need all of our prayers as she deals with the pain of her loss and the recovery of her two children.

Prayer Request from 40 Days for Life

I have an URGENT prayer request...

On Saturday a medical worker at a Planned Parenthood
abortion center where a 40 Days for Life campaign is
happening approached the prayer volunteers outside.

She said that Planned Parenthood had told its workers
that they would be immediately fired if they ever
talked to those on the sidewalk, but she felt drawn
to them -- and she shared that she desperately wants
out of her job.

She explained that after she started working at
Planned Parenthood earlier this year, the abortion
business assigned her the gruesome task of counting
the baby body parts following each abortion to make
sure everything was removed from the mother.

What she has seen inside the walls of Planned
Parenthood is horrific.

She then shared that several weeks ago a young woman
sat before her registering for an abortion and said,
"I'm so conflicted, should I do this or not?"

She leaned forward and quietly told her, "Don't do
this." The girl left, her baby alive within her.

A co-worker overheard and reported her to the
abortion center's supervisor who wrote her up and put
a stern warning in her employment file.

She asked the 40 Days for Life prayer volunteers if
she could meet Monday with someone who might be able
to help her -- and the time she had available was the
exact time that Jim Pinto, pastoral associate for
Priests for Life, was there in town for his visit to
the 40 Days for Life location.

Jim stopped everything else to pray for her, with
her, and over her. He also connected her with an
organization called The Centurions that helps to
bring abortion providers out of the abortion industry
where they can find forgiveness and healing in Christ
and restore their sense of self-worth.

The 40 Days for Life volunteers are now taking up a
collection to provide for her short-term needs so she
can leave her job immediately and they are helping
her find another job quickly since she is the sole
provider for her four daughters and needs income.

Amanda, there is a real possibility that these
faithful 40 Days for Life volunteers may be able to
help her walk away from the abortion industry TODAY!

Praise God for what He is doing in this woman's life,
and please keep her -- and this situation -- in your
prayers throughout the day.

I just received this email a little while ago on a line, and I would appreciate all the prayers you can utter! This is what the letter said:

"One of my good friends from high school has a girl Emerson who just turned two. She had a small intestine, liver and spleen transplant in June. She was recovering nicely and even took her first steps last week. Today, her mother was told things don't look good. Please pray for her. Here are her mother's words:Emerson just coded (her heart stopped). Her blood pressure started to drop & the doctors decided not to wait for intubation. I was in the waiting room while they attempted the procedure, when suddenly lights started flashing, horns started sounding, people started running everywhere, and the woman over the loud speaker announced, "pediatric code blue room 5304" – in a split second it hit me…that's Eme's room. I screamed "NO" over & over – I nearly collapsed. Several nice people helped me back to her room. The transplant surgeon (Dr. Botha) came out & said "NO, NO, Emerson is NOT going to be okay". I did collapse. He walked me back to a private room & sat with me. I told him to go save my daughter, but he didn't want to leave me alone. I begged him to go to her – he brought someone else to sit with me & he left. The horns continued to sound. I didn't want to see him again. I was too afraid of what he would say. It was really happening. It couldn't be…I wanted to go back to Friday, God take me back to Friday, please, please, please…Dr. Botha opened the door and said they succeeded. Her heart is beating, but she is very unstable - she is in full blown DIC. He said to call everyone in, and then he just hugged me, tight, so tight. He put his arms around me & wouldn't let go. God thank you for Dr. Botha, thank you for him, I needed him. Thank you God for putting him on service today, thank you for putting him across the hall when Eme coded. He was close & responded very quickly. Needless to say Eme is very unstable & it doesn't look good. Her pulses are very weak & her blood pressure continues to drop. Jim, the boys, & my mom are flying in this evening. I can't do this myself. My hands are freezing, I can barely type. My eyes are flooding, I can barely see.Please ask everyone you know for prayer. She needs them, I need them, our family needs them."

Please urgently pray for a miracle for this 5 year old girl I heard of today. She swallowed a bead and it got stuck far down in her air passage. She started suffocating, and it took them so long to find the bead and get it out, that her brain started to swell. There is nothing medical that they can do for her, so she is dying. Please storm heaven for prayers with this little girl! If I am correct, this family has already lost one child previous to this tragedy. Once again, please pray for her!
